Arms of Love has established a residential home for abandoned and abused children in Jinotepe, Nicaragua and on the island of Bohol in the Philippines, to provide them with a home, a family, and a future. Our children do not just receive food and shelter, but live in a family environment with house parent couples. In addition, we intentionally take sibling groups, in order to maintain any family bond possible. The Residential Program is for children and youth between the ages of 4-18 years old

Education

One of the essential investments for our children is their education. Arms of Love children recievethe best education to their specific learning needs. For example, we have children who are in accelerated programs, special education courses, and vocational school. In Nicaragua, we provide tutoring and supplementary classes on-site in computation, music, and English. In the Opportunities Philippines, the children are provided tutoring and engage in school competitions in running, music, and dance. Like other families, our greatest desire is for our children to live successful futures, and be all they can be. To see this to fruition, we are commited to providing higher education oppotunities through our Independed Living Program. Our education recognizes the importacnce of holistic approch Health to their learning by addressing their multi-dimentional trauma, breaking the progressino of poverty, and educating both the mind and heart.

Trama Counseling

By the time children live with us, they have already experienced four or more traumas in their lives Children have lived on the street and survived the harsh realities of being homeless; they have been sexually abused; and still others have been orphaned through car accidents, illness, and prostitution. Based on the trauma, a child receives ongoing individual and group therapy that best responds to their road to healing. It is only when a child’s value and identity is restored that they can trust again, building healthy relationships, and enter into a life that is filled with healing and restoration.

Enriched Opportunities

Like traditional families, our children have the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities. For example, the older boys in Nicaragua participate in the regional soccer league; in the Philippines girls love to dance and preform for teams who visit; some children are gifted in the arts, and can be found painting murals; and all of the kids are actively involved in the church

Unexpected Needs

Each child is created uniquely, and has many different experiences and needs. Arms of Love meets all of those needs. For example, a child has to have a bone tumor removed. Another teenager chipped his tooth while playing. A vision-impaired child received surgery to see clearly. If medicine is prescribed by a doctor for mental or physical health, it is provided. We are prepared for unique situations.

Health & Wellness

We Believe that our children’s health encompasses many things. We strive to provide and help them maintain the following:

Nicaraguan Family Arms of Love has been receiving children into our Nicaragua home since April 2000. Our children live on a 20-acre property in Jinotepe, a lush agricultural community located about one hour south of Managua. We currently have three homes, each accommodating 10-12 children, a houseparent couple, and one support staff—for a total of up to 50 children. Our future dream is to add an additional home to meet our growing needs. Our facilities in Nicaragua were designed with one thing in mind: fostering a strong sense of community. The homes include living space for the resident house parents, the children, and other multi-purpose spaces.

As a family, our children are learning important life skills, and participate in household chores, cooking, eating meals together, helping one another with homework, playing games,

attending church, and engaging in daily devotionals. The children and staff are also starting to cultivate a wide range of fruits, vegetables, and animals on our land. We believe that this environment offers the children an optimal combination of growing up in a beautiful, natural setting while still being integrated into a thriving local community with excellent educational and recreational opportunities. The project allows us to be better stewards of the land God has provided, while working towards a more sustainable model as an organization.

Arms of Love has been receiving children into our Philippines children’s homes since January 2001. Located on the island of Bohol in Lourdes, about 20 minutes from Tagbilaran City, the children’s home enjoys.

a beautiful rural environment while being close to the largest city in the province. We currently operate four homes and related facilities on a 5-acre property. Each home accommodates 8-10 children, together with a houseparent couple and assistant staff. About 25 children currently live with us, and we are in active discussions with the government to receive additional children

As of August 2015, the children and staff are beginning a sustainable farm that both will generate income and provide food for the children’s home. The children will participate in caring for the animals and crops, together with the staff and resident farm worker. The project allows us to be better stewards of the land God has provided, while working towards a more sustainable model as an organization.
