Bring a Short-Term Volunteer Team

“Words can’t even begin to explain what our eyes have seen, what our ears have heard, and what our hearts have felt.”

Bralia Fortune, Puksta Scholars

Build faith, hope, and shared vision in your community by bringing a team to an Arms of Love home. We welcome teams from churches, universities, workplaces, friends, or families.

Participation:

Participation can be tailored to suit your group, but short-term teams typically consist of 6-20 people who serve in-country from 6-14 days.

Teams engage in a variety of activities, such as construction, service to the children and the staff, community outreach, ministry with local churches, and so much more!

Pricing:

Teams pay $40 per person (per day), which includes three meals and lodging on-site.

Other expense considerations: transportation, translators, construction projects, craft supplies, and special activities like off-site adventures and parties for the team and kids. When your trip is scheduled, we will send you a list of activities to choose from, with a list of associated costs to help with team budgeting and to shape fundraising goals.

“Arms of Love is my choice organization for a mission trip, not only are they totally prepared to house a team, but they use every member of the team towards furthering the Kingdom of God in a unique way.”
– Cory Stumpf, Vineyard Church of the Rockies

“I thought I would be doing so much to hopefully help change the lives of the Arms of Love children with our team’s service work, but I never imagined they would so dramatically change me. I will never be able to repay them for all I learned and grew through this experience, but hope to encourage others to continue to volunteer, donate and visit as I hope to again do some day. Thank you, Arms of Love, for providing these children with a home and a family they can call their own and for welcoming us as volunteers with open arms and teaching us about the true meaning of love.”
– Edna Munoz, Colorado State University

Where are you interested in bringing a team?

We have a large and comfortable Short-Term Team Center known as Casa Grande which accommodates up to 35 people. Casa Grande includes a large kitchen and a substantial dining area, as well as meeting areas and spectacular views of nearby mountains and volcanoes. Visitors sleep in bunk beds and share bathrooms with traditional cold-water showers.

Visitors receive 3 meals per day. Your team will be served local Nicaraguan foods as well as more traditional American foods. Nicaraguan food is quite tasty and not very spicy. You will eat lots of rice and beans, local fruits, and enjoy spectacular Nicaraguan coffee.

Our property sits on 20 lush, tropical acres. There are trails for walking, and a basketball court that is used for many types of games … but mostly soccer!

Crafts, sports, dancing, games, nightly devotions … there are endless possibilities to connect to the kids!

Nicaraguan school is in session from February – November. During a typical day, teams can be found: helping with the Community Care Program; tutoring in English, computation, or music; working on the farm or doing construction; and much more!

Please ask us what our current needs are when you schedule your trip and let us know what your team’s special skills are.

Teams often like to venture out and do ministry in the community providing more opportunities for team (and faith) building. You can plan an outreach to a neighborhood in Jinotepe or Managua. We also love to have our kids serve in the community with teams, learning the value of service and blessing others. These are all wonderful ways to challenge and stretch your team.

The next soccer game is never far away.
Our Community Care kids will warm your heart!

The most important part of every trip is ministry and relationship. Your team will have many opportunities to share your faith with the children, to pray with them, and to encourage their spiritual growth. The staff also appreciates receiving ministry and special training, as caring for our children can be exhausting work. By building relationships with the staff and the children and ministering to them, the greater body of Christ is strengthened across cultural and geographical barriers.

CHURCH RELATIONSHIPS

One of the principal values of Arms of Love is to develop each project as a ministry of the local church to its own community. The children who reside at the Arms of Love Children’s Home attend services at a local church in Jinotepe. We are also in a close relationship with several other ministries, including La Vina Comunidad Cristiana Norte, (a church affiliated with the Vineyard Movement) that is pastored by Eugenio Maltez Lacayo.

Teams are welcome to join our local churches in ministry to the wider community!

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

The centrality of Jinotepe makes our location convenient to Managua, tourist sites and recreational areas. Your team can make a day trip to beautiful Granada, the colonial capital, and take a boat ride on Lake Granada. You can see beautiful views from Catarina, swim in Laguna de Apoyo (a gorgeous volcanic lake), or hike at the Mombacho volcano. The beach is only about an hour away, which makes it a perfect joint outing for the team and the kids. A day trip to Managua or Masaya is great for the market, where you can buy gifts and experience local traditions.

We can accommodate up to 20 people at our House of Love. The House of Love includes a kitchen and a nice open dining area, though teams are typically treated to dinner in the individual family homes. Visitors sleep in bunk beds, and there is one small shared bathroom with a traditional cold-water shower.

Visitors receive 3 meals per day. Your team will be served a mix of local Filipino foods. You will eat lots of white rice, meats, and the mangoes are considered among the best in the world.

There is a volleyball net as well as a half basketball court that gets lots of use!

Crafts, basketball, volleyball, karaoke … there are endless possibilities to connect to the kids. During school season (June – March), the kids are in school during most of the day, so the team will engage in other community projects and outreach.

We often have various work projects that teams can help with such as painting, landscaping, property repairs, working on the sustainability project, etc. Please ask us what our current needs are when you schedule your trip and let us know what your team’s special skills are.
